The race to replace retiring State Rep. Jim Solis, D-Harlingen continued at the University of Texas - Pan American tonight as the various candidates engaged in a healthy debate of the issues.
David Gonzales, Eddie Lucio, III, Arnie Olivarez, and Alfredo Montano, all Democrats, hope that they will have the opportunity to take on the sole Republican opponent, Luis Cavazos, in November, who is unopposed in the Republican primary.
Alfredo Montano and Luis Cavazos were not present at the debate.
I was pleased to see that each of the Democratic candidates were well versed on the issues. Each of them were quite articulate and presented themselves well. I would encourage Cameron County voters in District 38 to exercise their right to vote in this election. If a person would like a last look at the candidates I would recommend this debate for their viewing.
The debate which we witnessed tonight can be viewed on Channel 4 television on March 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.
Alternatively, the debate can be listened to in full on Shaine Mata's RGV Life blog, who made a recording of the debate.
Well its been a long day, I had better turn in now because tommorrow is another busy day.

Rep. I'm sorry but I could not take the lies and half truths coming out of JD's mouth during the county judge debate. What a con job. Where is the $600,000.00 coming from that he is spending in this race? For a job that pays so little? This man has sold his soul to corrupt interests, I'm sorry. I couldn't take it anymore and left the building. God help us if this man wins.
Thanks for the plug.
Vato Loco, I felt the same way when I heard JD. I didn't leave, however, because I wanted to hear the DA candidates. By the way, Cameron county does have some good choices for rep., though lucio seemed smoother than the others.
