"Footprints To Success" -- Working On The Dropout Problem

Must drive out of town early on Friday to speak to education professionals and para-professionals on the dropout problem. A state-wide conference of the Texas Professional Association of School Attendance Personnel (P.A.S.A.P.) and others will take place at 303 Blum St. @ Commerce St., in San Antonio, Texas.

PASAP is an organization dedicated to improving school attendance and decreasing the drop-out rate. PASAP's goal is to provide information, assistance, support, networking opportunities, and inter-district and inter-agency cooperation among professionals who enforce compulsory school attendance laws in the state of Texas.

Attending the event will be Teachers, Attendance/Data Clerks, At-Risk Student Personnel, School Administrators, School Social Workers, Parent/School Liaisons, Attendance/Data Clerks, Juvenile Probation Officers, Juvenile Court Personnel, Justice of the Peace Personnel, Texas School District Truancy-Related Personnel, Attendance Officers, Attendance Auditors, Judges and Attorneys.

At the conference we will be talking about strategies to decrease truancy. We are expected to share info on what's working in other districts with regards to dropout prevention. We will collaborate with districts & agencies involved in truancy.

For more information on PASAP conference and/or membership call PASAP President: Susie Garza at 210-397-8180.

I'll be speaking at the luncheon and hope to drive home immediately thereafter in order to participate in Fiesta Edinburg activities on Saturday.

UPDATE: 444 miles later and I'm back home. The conference was a big success. We talked about everything, taxes, truancy issues, illiteracy, drugs, drug interventions, school testing issues, technical training and so on, and so on. The conference attendees were inquisitive and we had a good give and take. Glad to be back tomorrow starts Fiesta Edinburg activities.
