
The bitter education battles that played out in the Legislature last year are being fought anew in a number of Republican primary races.
Candidates recruited by the education community are targeting six House seats now held by conservative Republicans who favored tax cuts but opposed major increases in education spending. Candidates with education-intensive platforms also are trying to win in several open seats.
Conservatives, meanwhile, are seeking to defeat five moderate Republicans who opposed private school vouchers or the leadership's school finance plan.
