The Living Classroom -- An Arbor Day Celebration In My Hometown

It was pretty cold outside today. Those of us who live in South Texas are not used to the temperatures today's front brought through. It didn't stop a brave group of young environmentalists from coming out today as my hometown of Edinburg celebrated an early Arbor Day. We planted an Ebony tree at one of our local schools.

The young environmentalists are students from our local schools. Together with a great group of instructional leaders they have developed a 3.5 acre native habitat that not only beautifies our community it teaches environmental awareness.

The students instructional leaders are Henry Cantu, Eddie Hinojosa, Jaime Guerra, Amancio Rodriguez, Melissa Zamora, and Jeff Rocksvold. Good job guys!

The top photo from left to right is Paul Johnson with the Texas Forest Service, Jose Luis Salinas our ECISD Superintendent, Alma Garza City of Edinburg Councilwoman, Jaime Chavana VP of the ECISD school board, State Rep. Aaron Pena and Mark Pena, my brother and Chairman of the Edinburg Environment Advisory Board.
