Hundreds upon hundreds of political activists, business community members, candidates and regular citizens came together tonight to pay homage to a tradition started by a group of close friends. The tradition, the tripa club. The friends, Jesse Trevino, Al Ramirez and Tony "Scooby Doo" Escobedo. Shown with me in the picture above is the head tripero, Mr. Jesse Trevino.
Now tonight's event was also special because one of my favorite South Texas writers, David Robledo, introduced me to a new newspaper called "The Paper Of South Texas." Their highlighted story was about none other than "the Tripa Club."
The 46 year-old Tripa Club came to an end tonight. Many of us begged and begged Jesse to pass the tradition on. It was great fun tonight -- a political junkies paradise. It was a night of the who's who of Texas politics dating back at least 50 years. Oh well it was a great tradition, started to allow some young bucks in politics to meet other folks. Thanks for the fun guys!
