As we get closer and closer to the special session regarding taxes I get busier and busier as everyone wants to know whose ox will be gored. I joined the Valley chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers to talk cold hard truths and the realities of the demands of the state. Professionals like engineers may be facing an increase in state taxes and they wanted to have as much information on the upcoming session so that they can be pro-active.
The one question I'm hearing over and over again is about the state lottery and where the funds are heading. Unfortunately lottery funds which go into state revenues only pay for a small portion of the budget in comparison to the larger funding demands made by our public education system.
