It is no secret that elections are really not the popularity contests our Founding Fathers intended. Today's elections are not decided by who is best liked or most reviled, much less by who represents the people's interests best or least. They are decided by which campaign can get more people to register to vote and then actually cast ballots, whether it be by mail, by voting early at malls and grocery stores, or by going to traditional neighborhood voting sites on Election Day.
