Jesse Bogan of the San Antonio Express-News Newspaper has a story on our situation in Edcouch Elsa:
"A school board president in the Rio Grande Valley can't attend meetings because he's being held in a jail cell without bond.
But a discussion of Aaron Luis Gonzalez's arrests on federal bribery and witness tampering charges has so far not been put on the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District board meeting agenda."
I'm sure many of you are aware the the unfortunate circumstance that faces the small community in my district. I am interested in your opinions regarding where the community should go from here in light of the fact that the school board president sits in jail. This is a great place, with great people and I believe in the future of the small community that my father and grandfather once called home. The good people there are resilient and will pull themselves through this difficult period. I look forward to working with the community to that end.
UPDATE: The first step in our community's recovery took place today, school board president Aaron Gonzalez resigned. Now community leaders must work together to see that something positive grows out of this tragedy for the benefit of the entire community.
The Monitor covers the story.
