Let me pivot off the last story on the Spanish version of the Star Spangled Banner and present this article about the subtle complexities of the immigration argument within the Hispanic community. Ten percent of the Minutemen's 8,000 members are Hispanic, according to Al Garza. If you remember Al Garza is the former Texas president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. He is now the group's second-in-command, to one of the nation's most prominent Hispanic anti-immigration activists. Garza is featured in a Houston Chronicle story about Hispanic Minutemen and is quoted as saying:
"This has nothing to do with race," said Garza, who was born in Raymondville in South Texas. "Anyone that has any racial agenda is not wanted in our group."
Much like the multiple perspectives of Tejanos during the Texas Revolution, today's Tejanos, like other Americans, have multiple perspectives on the current question of immigration reform. Some people from both sides of this highly polarized issue always hate when I highlight these differences. My feeling is that it is better to be knowledgeable than ignorant on the differences and subtleties in this debate.

I agree that it is good to understand both sides, but at some point you must choose where you stand. Although I sympathize with the reason illegal immigrants are here and have on more than one occasion bought lunch for one passing through, the issue upsets me.
What upsets me is that if I personally committed a felony, I know that the federal government would have no mercy in prosecuting me. They'd nail me to the wall. Here they, the illegal immigrants, are not only breaking immigration law, but they are flaunting it to the world. The sense of entitlement to something that is not theirs is what bothers me. A little humility and meekness is in order. It's one thing for me to help them out of kindness. It's quite another when they demand I do something for them. When you visit, it's not polite to make demands of your host.

Unlawful presence in the U.S. is not currently a felony, but a misdemeanor. I'm sure that you commit misdemeanor offenses (e.g. speeding) all of the time. I bet you probably were speeding regularly when the speed limit was 55 mph, and you probably didn't raise a ruckus when Congress increased the speed limit to 70 mph, in order to accomodate your "criminal" conduct.

A sense of entitlement to what? To work for a minimum wage without the threat of deportation and exploitation? Humility and meekness got this community in the situation where they are right now, scapegoated for everything that goes wrong in this country from economic problems to terrorism. I am glad that the undocumented community is finally standing up for themselves to tell the American people that they will no longer be a doormat and a whipping boy for our society.
This is Little Buddy. I am just writing to say that I did not write post 5:18, although I totally agree with it.
I can't wait to read Shaine's off-the-wall response. This is great!

Actually both Shaine and anonymous 5:18 have valid points.
In Mexico it is assumed that migrating to the US is a viable job opportunity. This needs to stop at the grass roots. Now migration stems from desperation and the draw the huge demand of jobs on this side of the border.
This is a complex problem and both sides need to comprimise and face the reality.
I do have a misdemeanor and a pending court date. I haven't gotten away with anything.

You try to twist the argument. They come here knowing that they don't have the legal status resident aliens do and are subject to exploitation. They KNOW this coming here. Nobody blames THEM for terrorism, we blame the terrorists. Although the same weakness that allows illegals to come in can be used by terrorists and IS being used by criminal gangs like the MS-13. The sense of entitlement of which I speak is the sense that we OWE these illegals something. They work and get paid. It's a clean deal. They hide because they stand to lose their jobs, not because they feel remorse about breaking our laws.
My views and my actions are publicly known. I stand by my beliefs and don't hide in anonymity. I have addressed illegal immigration many times. I'm sure you think you have me figured out through some conservative stereotype. I'd be glad to discuss once you really know me, read on.

I have a blog and am not afraid to use it!
LOL
You tell us not to judge you as a conservative stereotype. Well, you sure are damn close. I checked all those links you posted and damn you're close to that conservative stereotype.
So you're problem is just that they're illegal. You say to them to just come here legally and that's it. Do you have any idea what that encompasses today? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to come here legally today. The INS (or DHS or USCIS, they seem to be changing their name on a daily basis, whom I just hate to death) make it hell to come here. First off, they want the person coming to be a model citizen. Secondly, they come up with a series of ridiculous fees for one to pay, in other words to sucker them out of their money. Realistically speaking, only well-off people can come easily to this country if they so wish to. Common people cannot.
It's people like you that ruin Hispanics. Any minority that votes republican is a traitor because the repubs only believe in white supremacy. Democrats actually help other races (who authored civil rights bills and who opposed them in the 50's and 60's.) Should I mention names like Barry Goldwater and Strom Thurmond, both Republicans?
Why did the South turn republican? Because Democrats passed civil rights legislation and integration. Great party. I am not Mexican, I am a Spaniard. I spit on people like you for betraying immigrants.
Since you mention terrorists, let me remind you that the 9/11 hijackers came to this country legally and were trained legally by us. None of them were here illegally. Don't use terrorism as a cheap excuse. You sound like a 50's anti-communist re-run.
Let's face facts, you're conservative and you definitely look Mexican, indio patas rajadas [if you speak Spanish, you'll know what that means.] I don't look that way and could actually pass as a tanned white person. Yet you're the conservative and I'm the liberal. Here's a nice idea, remember your ancestry. And don't forget how the white man came to this country originally. Do you think the Indians just ceded the territory to the white people and said "Please take our land, we don't want it."
If I sound pissed, good, because I am. I respects other people's beliefs, but you look like a mojado, so don't give me that crap. Don't try to be white when you're not.
Why don't you complain about Canadian illegal immigrants (only 4th highest in illegal immigrants.) I'll tell you why, because they look white.
So go ahead and listen to the shit fed to you by Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh, who are nothing more than pompous jerks with insane ideologies they get to preach and people believe through their screaming and pompousness.
Just remember this, you have betrayed your race by doing two things: First, believing that one form of immigration is wrong but another is right, all immigration is good and should be allowed [Hell, in my opinion, there should be open borders worldwide.] Secondly, you vote Republican [as I can tell from your links and your ideology.] Well, that's definitely a traitor in my view, indio patas rajadas [by the way, you definitely look like one.]
