The little rabbit there in the middle is my littlest grandson -- Aaron Austin Pena. We like many Americans share the tradition of the Egg Hunt at Easter time. We today had a large family gathering with relatives coming in from as far away as Virginia. One of the highlights of the gathering is the hunt for the colored eggs.
On a day like today, I couldn't help but wonder how a little egg came to be a symbol for a day marking the Easter Resurrection. A little research tells me that this special day has been symbolized for centuries by lambs, rabbits, lilies and crosses. The egg, however is perhaps the oldest and most universal symbol of rebirth and new life. Anne Campbell from the Detroit News has a story of the history of the egg as a symbol for Easter. It's worth a read.
On this glorious day that we share together, let me wish you and your loved ones a happy Easter.
