How The Egg Came to Symbolize Easter

The little rabbit there in the middle is my littlest grandson -- Aaron Austin Pena. We like many Americans share the tradition of the Egg Hunt at Easter time. We today had a large family gathering with relatives coming in from as far away as Virginia. One of the highlights of the gathering is the hunt for the colored eggs.

On a day like today, I couldn't help but wonder how a little egg came to be a symbol for a day marking the Easter Resurrection. A little research tells me that this special day has been symbolized for centuries by lambs, rabbits, lilies and crosses.
