McNeely: The Hammer Nails Himself

Dave McNeely takes a look at Tom Delay's departure in his recent column. Quite frankly, I think he nails it, if I could use the pun. I thought it important to include his words on the Tom Delay experience on this site. Hopefully the era of high partisanship will come to an end and we can mark its decline in the retirement of Delay from congressional office. As Dave put it:

"....he leaves a legacy: he was the major catalyst in bringing to the once amicably bipartisan Texas Legislature the type of party division that he had hammered into place in Washington.

Perhaps someday it can be undone. But as often happens in the wake of a scorched-earth war, the bitterness, distrust and division last for not just years, but decades."

Well put Dave. Many of my Republican colleagues hated the ubber-partisanship that Delay wrought in this state. They unfortunately feared him. Wasted taxpayer dollars on redistricting effort after redistricting effort and other partisan issues drove the good people who lead this state to do things not for the betterment of Texas but for betterment of a few or the betterment of party.

Now that he is gone, let us recommit to work for all Texans, without exception.
