Heraldo H. Pena

Herald H. Peña, 68, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at his residence in Edinburg. Herald was one my father's younger brothers and very much a big brother figure to me.
Born in Roma, Texas, Mr. Peña, formerly from Pharr, had lived in Edinburg for 28 years and was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. He retired as an assistant superintendent with the PSJA school district after 30 years of service and was currently a paralegal with the Law Firm of L. Aron Peña, his brother. Herald Pena served in the armed forces of this country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Baltazar and Lupita Peña.
Mr. Peña is survived by his wife, Alva Peña of Edinburg; six children, Michael J. Peña of Brownsville, Christina M. Peña of Edinburg, Charles C. Peña of Pharr, Evangeline Rose Peña of San Antonio, Texas, Elizabeth Vianee Peña and Deborah Jane Peña, both of Edinburg; four grandchildren, Brandon Castillo, Monika Castillo, Michael Peña Jr. and Aidan Peña; four brothers, Romeo B. (Lucia) Peña of Elsa, L. Aron (Sylvia) Peña Sr., Roel M. (Gloria) Peña, both of Edinburg, Rolando M. (Libby) Peña of Sharyland; and a sister, Maria (Edwin) Schmidt of Springfield, Va.

Hello, Aaron,
Please accept condolences from Judy and me regarding the passing of your uncle. Especially, convey these sentiments to your dad. Your father is a gentleman and a role model, and he always made time many years ago to help out of rookie reporter like me, who knew little about the world of government, but he made the time to help me out.
I am sure that your uncle also helped countless people in his life, especially those most in need.
No doubt, he has gone home to his reward in Heaven.
Sincerely,
David A. Diaz

My condolences on your loss. Is your family from Pharr? My dad is also from Pharr.
Thank you all for the kind words. It was sad to see Herald go.
Vince, my father's family lived in Elsa when they were young. Most, but not all, of us now live in Edinburg. Next to Edinburg is Pharr were Herald spent many years working as an educator. I have many friends who live in Pharr. It is a town well known for some serious politics. This must be the origins of your love of politics.
Like many of us, it's in your blood.
