From Burka to Kuffner, it has been suggested that I lift the curtain on the near secret behind the scenes efforts of lawmakers to select a speaker. I have been careful on this blog, to the degree possible, not to interfere by use of this blog, with the efforts of each of the candidates to advocate their positions to the members. My respect for each of these candidates and their supporters has effectively kept my postings to that of a discreet observer. That being said, it is my opinion based on information that I have been able to observe, that a front runner has emerged. It is my belief that the turning point occurred yesterday.
If things continue on their present course, and I presently see no reason for them to change, you can expect that the members of the 80th Legislature will have a clear front runner in the election for Speaker occurring on January 9th. For now, I will exercise my discretion one final time and allow you to surmise who that front runner may be.

You know how I feel about you being a seer. This is driving me crazy. I say it is McCall.
I for one do not sit in judgement on any "Craddick D". You guys know your districts better than anyone else, and what you can do for your constituents far outweighs one single wedge issue.
I do hope that the corner that was turned, that you mention, was a McCall corner. Absent that, the silver lining on a 3rd Craddick speakership is that it will give Dems all the more reason to show up to the polls in '08.
