"The truth shall set you free" or so the saying goes. In the current discussions concerning the position of Speaker of the Texas House, where does one find truth. As it was at the beginning of the session, gossip, spin and outright lies make the discovery of truth in these circumstances an elusive quest. "What's going to happen?," this is the question I was repeatedly asked today. My suspicions for those of you who must know is that other than talk and some stirring about I don't suspect things will change this session. In the final analysis, I suspect that the respect the legislative membership has for the institution of the Texas House will cause the passing of this bitter cup. Sure there are disagreements over tone and direction, these discussions will continue. No doubt they will be front and center come the beginning of the next legislative session. I can not help but observe that at the center of the current debate are personalities who at their core share a love of our state and it's institutions. Although this is but one of the many factors that will ultimately determine future events, it is the important element I want to believe will move this debate to another time.
Tricks, lies or truth? You be the judge. I hope I answered your questions.
UPDATE: State Representative Jim Keffer (R-Eastland) announced today (Tuesday) that he has filed his candidacy paperwork for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives for the 81st Regular Session which will begin in January, 2009. As expected, I don't foresee action in the 80th.

Mr. Rep I know this is totally a different topic, but let the truth be said. It is so sad how there is so many corrupt attorneys and how they can lie in court and still get away with it. How can many judges just take sides due to other favors or needs. It is so sad that this is allowed and how it is done to put more money in lawyers pockets. I am sorry to say that I am ashamed of this and to think about his our forefathers did not want this for our country.. lies, corruption, fraud1111111111 if you dont want tricks or lies then let te truth be know... amandment 1
