Reporters' Shield Fails On Point Of Order

The Free Flow of Information Act, is before the House for a vote. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Corbin Van Arsdale, R-Houston and myself in the House and by Sen. Rodney Ellis, D-Houston and Sen. Robert Duncan, R-Lubbock in the Senate.

Recent editorials have advocated for it's passage.

The legislation will protect the confidentiality of whistleblowers and newsroom work product. Thirty-three other states and the District of Columbia currently have some form of law protecting journalists' sources and workproduct, including every single state bordering Texas. This bill has a long history and has a number of people who have long advocated it's passage.

UPDATE: The bill fails on a point of order.
