Texas Democratic Chair Meets With Valley Democrats

Woke up this morning to get an early start from the TAAP conference in San Antonio back to the Rio Grande Valley where South Texas Democrats are gathering with the state party chairman. We had a good strategy session with Chairman Boyd Richie before he addressed the larger session. Both Democrats exploring a challenge to United States Senator John Cornyn, Mikal Watts and Rep. Rick Noreiga, addressed the audience. Local officials, candidates and interested citizens were also present. Afterwards Rep. Veronica Gonzales and I stayed to visit with some of the Democrats who came to the event.

This morning's event marks the 18th and last stop of a series of town hall meetings that the Texas Democratic Party and Boyd Richie have conducted. As mentioned by Hidalgo County Chairman Juan Maldonado at today's event, people do appreciate a visit by the state chairman in Deep South Texas. We certainly would encourage more of them. Today's event also marked the first time potential U.S. Senate candidates Noreiga and Watts appeared at the same event. I was very glad I made the early trek this morning in that it was a worthy event.

What was your impression of Mikal Watts and Rick Noriega as potential candidates for Senate? Did you get the impression both were going to run? Did you think one would be better or more electable than the other?
