Each year I a make pilgrimage of sorts to visit with my friends from around the state and nation at the Annual Conference of Addiction Professionals. This year T.A.A.P is holding their state conference in San Antonio, Texas. As they have for the past several years the organization grants scholarships to deserving students looking to attend college. The John Austin Peña Scholarship has been awarded to deserving students for the last three years. I will be attending to present the checks to the deserving students. The new drug treatment center to be constructed in the Valley will be good news to the attendees. This project will assist families who may not have the means to send their loved ones to a private facility. It certainly is a worthy event that I must attend. "Would you know my name? Would you help me stand?" Eric Clapton's words ring true as to our responsibility as a community and as individuals to our fellow man. My sincere congratulations for the tireless efforts by so many of the members of this fine organization.
UPDATE: The event was a great success. As always the people at T.A.A.P. are a very special group of people that I will always hold dear and near to my heart. The John Austin Pena Scholarship was awarded to a fine young man who is on his way to greater things. He intends to continue his college education in order to one day help those suffering from addiction. Best wishes to all. I'm already looking forward to next years event.
