Today dignitaries from around the state gathered at the Regional Academic Health Center to dedicate the expansion of the institution.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) is the premier institute for medical education and research in the Rio Grande Valley.
Dignitaries present and on the podium at the dedication ceremony for the Academic and Clinical Research Building were Francisco G. Cigarroa, M.D., President of UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, Senator Eddie Lucio, Mr. Robert Shepard, Chairman of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Robert Estrada, Regent, The University of Texas System Board of Regents, Dr. Leonel Vela, Regional Dean of the RAHC, and The Most Reverened Raymundo J. Peña, Bishop, Diocese of Brownsville. These presenters were joined by a significant number of business, medical and educational leaders from around the state.
As I and several other commenters noted, this is the footprint for a full fledged medical school for the South Texas region.
The Valley Morning Star has the story.
