A JULY SPECIAL SESSION

Today we received the Governor's announcement calling legislators from around the state to gather in Austin on July 1st at 10:00 a.m.

The Governor's call includes legislation extending the existence of 5 state agencies that were subject to sunset review and to further allow TxDOT to issue general obligation bonds already approved by the voters.

The Governor has made statements that he expects the session to be short and for these to be the only topics of the special session. No mention was made of the contentious Voter ID bill. Although this legislation could still be brought up in a subsequent legislative session, I am not expecting it to come up in the July session.

I have already made plans to return to Austin to get an early start on the issues confronting us. I'll just have to push off summer vacation to a later date and ask the family for their patience.

Our office here at home and in Austin will continue to provide the best service to our constituents that is available. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions regarding the special session or any other issue.
