I am pleased to announce that Sullivan City is expected to receive $500,000.00 for flooding and drainage improvements. The Texas Department of Rural Affairs has recommended that the city receive the grant from the 2008 Supplemental Disaster Recovery Fund. The funding was issued as a result of flooding due to drainage and flooding problems caused by Hurricane Dolly.
Many of our communities are still slowly recovering from damage cause by Hurricane Dolly. It is important to support long-term infrastructure improvements so that we may be better prepared to face natural disasters in the future. I am happy to see that Sullivan City will be able to use these funds to help alleviate flooding and improve their drainage capabilities. I applaud the leaders of Sullivan City for their hard work and cooperation with the state of Texas in getting this important funding for their community.
The $500,000.00 grant will be used to construct a 2,700 foot long drainage ditch by excavating, hauling and laying 40 linear feet of concrete culvert to direct waters away from the culverts under Expressway 83.
The funds will be made available through the 2008 Supplemental Community Development Block Grant funding associated with the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, appropriated by Congress through the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs. The program is administered by the Texas Department of Rural Affairs, Disaster Recovery Division.
