I just returned from the Freddy Gonzalez Veterans' Nursing Home where I had a chance to pay my respects to the veterans who are living there. I had the pleasure of seeing the nursing homes namesake's mother, Dolia Gonzalez.
I also had a good talk with Rolando De La Rosa, the father of U.S. Army Sgt. Fernando “Ferna” De La Rosa, the Alamo soldier who recently lost his life in Afghanistan. It was touching to see Mr. De La Rosa making a point of shaking the hand of every veteran in the nursing home. He also addressed the audience.
I joined Ms. Gonzalez and Mr. De La Rosa for a photo along with a framed print of medal of honor recipient Freddy Gonzalez. The print was donated by the artist to the nursing home.
